This Pitch Competition Is Looking To Fund Black Female Entrepreneurs

PITCH BLACK, a pitch competition created by MVMT50, is on a mission to help black entrepreneurs in need of startup funding and mentoring. This year, they are partnering with SheaMoisture and New Voices to present THE FUTURE IS STILL FEMALE — a start-up pitch competition for female entrepreneurs of color.

To be eligible to pitch, your startup can be in the idea stage or one that is fully operational. Also, your startup has to include at least one female co-founder and she has to pitch on stage. According to MVMT50, “African American women are innovators and they are also one of the most underfunded groups of entrepreneurs. In 2018, MVMT50 chose to focus solely on Black women with the theme The Future is Female and the event was met with an overwhelming amount of interest and support. As a result, MVMT50 has chosen to continue with this theme for 2019.”

The deadline to submit your pitch application is Friday, February 9th, 2019. Prior to applying, be sure to go over your pitch deck and create your pitch video as both are requirements for the application. #thankuslater

Finally after all pitch applications are submitted, on Saturday, March 9th in Austin Texas, 10 lucky Black female founders will have the chance to pitch and win cash prizes and invaluable mentorship during the process. Each founder will have 5 minutes to pitch and then 5 more minutes for a Q&A session from the audience members and judges. At the end of the competition, there will be one winner selected by the audience and one winner selected by the judges.

MVMT50 is a coalition of black thought leaders committed to sustained and systematic improvement in employment diversity, cultural representation, and leadership development in the innovation, technology, and digital sectors.
